Turbans 4 Australia deserve a special mention... This band of good hearts and hands... made meals and food hampers for visa holders left jobless and without government assistance in the darkest days of COVID-19.

With bushfire smoke still in the air, they also travelled to the scarred communities of Eden-Monaro to cook meals, share their brand of mateship and deliver two semitrailer loads of water, groceries, toiletries and tools to help farmers.

In an increasingly divided world, the work of [Turbans 4 Australia] inspires us to be tolerant and inclusive. It's a contribution that inspires my work and, I hope, the work of the wider community as we all look to make the experiences of 2020 count in the future.

Every time there's an issue, an emergency, and we turn on the television to watch the news to see how things are unfolding, I see gentlemen with long beards and turbans running around, trying their best to do something to provide support...

They've taken hay bales out to Dubbo and Coonamble and other places when the farmers were in crisis. And of course through the recent floods and the terrible bushfires, they were there...

They're about showing the community broadly that the Sikh community believes in equality and justice and compassion, and they're spreading that word.

I want to thank you for all the support given to our community in Lismore. This is the first time in my life that I need help with essential items.
